Chicano Research Collection [Collection]

thumbnail image

Summary: The Chicano Studies Collection was established in 1970 in response to the academic needs of both Chicano students and faculty in higher education. Its purpose was to obtain works by and about Mexican Americans, or Chicanos, in the United States, and to place those materials in a separate library collection.

The collection seeks to acquire and strengthen holdings of primary resources relevant to Mexican Americans in the Southwest in general, and in Arizona in particular, and to continue to make the material available to scholars, researchers, and students nationwide. The Chicano Research Collection still collects, houses, and maintains a solid representation of Mexican American, or Chicano, thought, expression, and research on Arizona's largest ethnic group, the Mexican American.
